Ethan Steigerwald is a drummer from Pittsburgh PA who wanted a little something more and one day picked up the guitar and began to write songs.
Fans of Ethan Steigerwald will tell you that he’s from Ground From Sky, and his music and voice like a meteor, comes from somewhere out of this world. Like an audio still-life, songs like “People Always Know” demand instant respect and play to the ears like tangible art such as a painting by Gustave Klimt plays to one’s eyes. His music, very impressionistic and dynamic, is an amalgam of polite emotive vocal melodies, folky fingerpicking and snappy rhythmic guitar driven by a looped tribal thump. Every song differing from the previous, with each first listen you melt at the hands of his sonic aura and hang in suspense with each subsequent lyric.
Ground from Sky also featuring Ethan and Seth Brewster were working on their acoustic albums in the “Arcade” and decided to pick up electric guitars and plug in. Ethan injected his MIDI keyboard into this new configuration and a whole new sound was born. Ethan plays bass live with his left hand and drums with his right hand. This new sound has a lot of African drum influence and sampling instruments from all over the world. Blending uptempo dance music with ethereal background noise and vocals they’ve created a new hybrid sound mixing different genres and culture.Check out their facebook profile and listen to the song “Fire Escape.” Ethan in addition to being a talented artist is also an aspiring audio engineer and hopes to be interning at a mastering studio in Arizona by years end.
Enjoy the in-studio performance of “Something Old.” Once this song gets in your head good luck hitting stop on your mental media player. It’s tender, moody, and the vocal melody is quite distinguished and hooky.
